Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan lands racy movie role: Linda
Lovelace

Actress given role as a porn star

Can one troubled movie star have insight into another? Producers of an upcoming film about the 1970s porn scene hope so - reportedly signing up Lindsay Lohan to play famed adult star Linda Lovelace.

"We've all thought that Lindsay would be a great choice for a while now, and we're all convinced that she is going to do it," says Inferno producer Wali Razaqi, who confirmed the casting choice to the Los Angeles Times. "For at least a year, the director [Matthew Wilder] and I have gone back and forth imagining how awesome of a performance she could give if she was in the movie."

Besides their sharing the same monograms, Razaqi sees broad thematic parallels between Lohan and Lovelace (real name: Linda Susan Boreman), who had drug problems and was famously ambivalent about her career. She died in 2002.

"Not that Lindsay's life is similar in any way - but she's been through a lot of ups and downs," says Razaqi. "A lot of times you're loved and then you're hated, and I think she can relate to those emotions and feelings. One week she's the 'it' girl, and the next, she's the 'What are you doing?' girl."

Razaqi says an announcement about Lohan's casting will be made at the Cannes Film Festival this month.

Nicole Richie

Adopted by singer Lionel Richie, Nicole Richie grew up in privileged L.A. society, where her playmates included hotel heiress Paris Hilton. In 2003, the pair starred in the reality show, The Simple Life. After arrests and problems with drugs, Richie found herself in rehab.

Often accused of being too thin, Richie became a style icon, with endless coverage of her shrinking frame. She continued working with Hilton although they famously fell out, but reconciled in 2006 before starring in their show's fifth season.

The former wild child has become a domesticated goddess with rocker fiancé Joel Madden, with whom she has two children, daughter Harlow and son Sparrow.

Nicole Richie may have parted from her past party girl ways, but she can still throw a good bash – especially if she's celebrating her son's first birthday.

Richie, along with fiancé Joel Madden and big sis Harlow, 2 ½, held a party for Sparrow Saturday. He turns 1 on Sept. 9.

About 50 guests, including actress Ellen Pompeo and her daughter Stella Luna, 11 months, and Sparrow's uncle Benji Madden, gathered in the backyard of the family's Hollywood Hills home and noshed on birthday cake. The backyard was decorated with red, green, orange and purple "Happy Birthday" balloons for the occasion.

"Nicole was keeping the party simple to not overwhelm Sparrow," a source at the party tells PEOPLE. "Everyone seemed to have a great time."

Nicole Kidman

Don't be fooled by the porcelain skin and To Die For looks. Nicole Kidman's got acting chops. The Oscar winner proves that perfection in skill and beauty can both be had.

After her 10-year marriage to Tom Cruise ended in 2001, the media was waiting for Kidman to break a sweat, instead, she kept working, avoiding the media tsunami set off by her ex and his frenzied courting of Katie Holmes. Kidman continued to get richer, literally (earning $3.71 million for a Chanel commercial) and figuratively (winning an Oscar for Best Actress in The Hours in 2003).

Shortly after marrying country music sensation Keith Urban in 2006, Kidman stood by her man when he entered rehab for alcohol abuse. Now, the regal movie star is heading toward a happy ending with Urban, as the couple welcomed their daughter, Sunday Rose.

Mischa Barton

Mischa Barton’s star burnt brightest during her run as damsel in distress Marissa Cooper on FOX’s teen drama, The O.C. The willowy blonde became the show’s breakout star, a Neutrogena girl and oft-photographed Hollywood scenester.

The starlet, who got her beak on Broadway at age 9, eventually yearned to make her mark beyond the tube: Marissa was killed on The O.C in 2006 – before FOX killed the show altogether – and she worked tirelessly on a slew of indie flicks.

Although Barton, who’s dated billionaire heir Brandon Davis and rocker Cisco Adler, has yet to garner fame on the silver screen, she has launched into the headlines with a 2008 DUI arrest and 2009 stay under psychiatric hold.

Her show The Beautiful Life was cancelled almost before it began, but that didn't stop Mischa Barton from resuming her own beautiful life on Monday night at a party in New York City.

Demonstrating that she'd regained her model figure with a Versace gown at the Whitney Museum Gala, Barton, 23, said she doesn't mind not working for the small screen anymore.

"I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach," she said. "That whole world of network television, probably isn't, for me, a good idea now. I need to start reading for more serious roles."

But she's not sure exactly what the next project will be.

"It's too early to tell yet," she said. "I'm passing on all the [early] offers, because that's not the stuff you want to do. I want to go fight for interesting things and look for something that's going to be interesting for me ... as a role."

For now, her focus is on her body – she said she regularly works out with girlfriends – and on embracing life in Gotham.

"Reading scripts and enjoying living in New York," she said, calling her break from work "lovely." "Now that I'm not doing the TV show, I've got lots of time to work out."

Miley Cyrus

Like Britney and Hilary who came before her, Miley Cyrus has broken her squeaky-clean Disney image and transformed into an outspoken, full-fledged and oft-controversial pop star.

With her father Billy Ray Cyrus at her side, a 13-year-old Cyrus broke onto the scene in Disney Channel's split personality smash Hannah Montana, which spawned two chart-topping albums, a big-screen blockbuster, and a megaselling concert tour.

Since then, the multitasking star – who's expanded her brand to fashion and film – has kissed Hannah goodbye and kicked up the sex appeal for the release of her third studio album, Can't Be Tamed.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey shot up the charts in 1990 with her debut album and five-octave range, eventually becoming the best-selling female artist of all time.

For the New York native, it all started at 18 when she met Sony Music mogul Tommy Mottola, who signed her with Columbia Records, making her a star at 21 and his wife at 24. The marriage ended four years later, but Carey continued to record with Columbia until signing a reported $80 million, four-album deal with Virgin Records in 2001.

Her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi brought the pop diva back from her well-publicized emotional breakdown, and became the year's best-selling album. In 2008, after beating Elvis Presley with her eighteenth No. 1 single off her sixth No. 1 album, E=MC2, Carey married Nick Cannon, with whom she's having her first child.

A day after confirming the pregnancy rumors about herself, Mariah Carey is feeling the physical effects of expecting a baby.

"Right now I feel nauseous, I'm exhausted," the singer said Friday on her husband's Rollin' with Nick Cannon radio show on 92.3 NOW.

Carey, who is currently promoting her new Merry Christmas II You album, says she'll stop working once the holidays are over: "I guess after New Year's," she said.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, 41, also says she's been "insulated" from the outside world since sharing their baby news with the world.

"I didn't even look and see who contacted me," she said.

When it comes to Christmas, Cannon, 30, said the couple always celebrate lavishly, and this year's festivities will be even "bigger" than before because the couple has "lots to celebrate" – a sentiment echoed by his wife.

"Yes, we do," said Carey. "We definitely, most certainly do."

Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson says she's not bankrupt – thank you very much – and is firing back against allegations that she owes more than $1 million to contractors and back taxes.

"I'm financially secure and I want to thank everyone who expressed concern for me based on these rumors," Anderson said in a statement Monday. "I am actually touched at how much concern has been expressed for me over this. It is true that I am in a dispute with some of the contractors working on my home. This is because after paying millions of dollars to build the house I continue to get bills from the contractors."

L.A. County records show that five construction companies have filed liens for unpaid bills for remodeling work done on the star's Malibu home, with one company claiming $674,043 alone for "labor and materials ... to remodel main house, construct swimming pool, construct foundations for guest house."

Repeated calls to the contractors were not returned.

"My lawyers are reviewing the work done to see if the bills are fair," Anderson continues. "If they are, they'll be paid. If they aren't, they won't be. I am just sorry [one of the contractors] went to the press, especially when I was working out of the country."

County records also show that Anderson owes $252,360.39 in back state taxes and penalties for 2007.

Anderson added, "On a separate issue, mistakes may have been made in calculating taxes owed and we are now in the process of ensuring that any taxes owed are paid."

Mandy Moore

When Mandy Moore first came onto the music scene, she was just another blonde, bubblegum pop tart trying to keep up with frontrunner Britney Spears. But, the determined sweetheart eventually surprised fans and critics with a lasting career in film rather than music.

After releasing radio-friendly hits like "Candy," Moore switched her focus to acting, proving she could carry a film as a brunette pastor's daughter in the tear-jerker, A Walk to Remember. She has since starred alongside Diane Keaton in Because I Said So and John Krasinski in License to Wed.

In March 2009, after a long string of boyfriends (including tennis pro Andy Roddick and actors Wilmer Valderrama and Zach Braff), Moore quietly married rocker Ryan Adams.

• Mandy Moore was on a mission ... a vintage shopping mission for husband Ryan Adams. The singer-actress popped into Tini on L.A.'s Faifax Avenue, where she browsed the wares in a blue blouse and flats. According to a source, Moore had such a good time shopping that she told a store employee she was going to come back in a week – this time with Adams in tow!

• With a black balloon in hand, Keith Urban accompanied wife Nicole Kidman and 16-month-old daughter Sunday Rose for a walk in a Nashville park. Kidman, who wore workout clothes, pushed her daughter in the stroller, while Urban, in all black, strolled alongside his lovely ladies.

• Newlyweds Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy, seeing all the sights in Savannah, Ga., while in town for the Savannah Film Festival. On their itinerary: the Bonaventure Cemetery and the Mercer House. The two also hung out with Emmy Rossum and Adam Duritz and dined at the Olde Pink House with director James Ivory. Dancy also received the Spotlight Award at the Savannah College of Arts and Design – with Danes by his side. "They are so in love," says a source. "They [were] always laughing together and holding hands."

• Are they still an item? Balthazar Getty, sitting in the center orchestra at the American Airlines Theater on Broadway with a male friend checking out Sienna Miller in After Miss Julie.

• Eve picked up a Eugenia Kim hat while shopping at Nikki Laura, a boutique in New York's Nolita neighborhood.

Madonna

Stars are going loco for the coco – coconut water, that is.

From Madonna to Penn Badgley, celebs have been spotted sipping the low-cal beverage as they beat the summer heat. And despite its A-list following, the drink is pretty low-key: coconut water is the liquid found in green coconuts.

Demi Moore, Matthew McConaughey and Madonna have all invested in Vita Coco, which was founded in 2004. And Vita sales jumped from about $4 million in 2007 to $20 million in 2009.

The Material Girl invested in Vita Coco because it's an independent company. "The fact that they are saying 'no' to everyone who wants them is pretty cool," her manager tells the New York Post. "You want to go to the party that no one else is invited to."

Coconut water is a million dollar market, thanks to other brands like Zico and O.N.E., which is a favorite of Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Scherzinger, Nick Cannon and Brooke Shields, to name a few. The beverage banks in the range of $40 to $60 million annually – although the category has yet to compete with billion-dollar drink brands like Red Bull, says Jeffrey Klineman, editor of Bevnet.com, an online publication that reviews nonalcoholic beverages.

Other celeb sippers include Molly Sims, Heidi Klum, Jessica Simpson and Ellen Pompeo, who have all been spotted recently with the drink.

Sims, who is the face of Zico, says she turns to the beverage for healthy hydration, which she explained at the unveiling of her Zico billboard in N.Y.C.

Said Sims: "You'll never have to eat a banana because [coconut water's] very high in potassium!"

Watching her roll around onstage in a wedding dress and fishnet stockings at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards, few could have predicted that Madonna would become a cultural force to be reckoned with over the next two decades.

Since that moment, the Catholic schoolgirl turned Kabbalist has made movies, launched style trends, sparked religious controversy, sold over 200 million records, and proved herself to be a savvy businesswoman.

Offstage, Madonna took on the roles of wife, mother, children's-book author and humanitarian. In 1996, her daughter Lourdes was born, and in 2000, Madonna married British film director Guy Ritchie. The two have a son, Rocco, and adopted their son David from Malawi. In 2008, Madonna and Ritchie ended their marriage, and the Material Mom went on to adopt another Malawi orphan, 3-year-old Mercy James.

Liv Tyler

A 1988 Aerosmith concert changed Liv Rundgren's world forever: It was there she learned that the band's Steven Tyler (those lips!) was her biological father.

In the 1990s, Liv Tyler put her ga-ga gorgeous looks – and new surname – to good use, landing on the cover of Seventeen at age 15. But her breakout role can be credited to her father, Steven. In the 1994 Aerosmith music video, "Crazy," she played a schoolgirl who ditches class to hang out at a strip club with Alicia Silverstone. The video turned her into a rock sex symbol and led to roles in such movies as the tender coming-of-age film Stealing Beauty, blockbusters like Armageddon and the record-breaking Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Tyler, who married British musician Royston Langdon in 2003, had son Milo the following year. In 2008, the actress separated from Langdon before shattering the box office with The Incredible Hulk.
